Are wireless repeaters useful in todays market and technology. I've played with one years back and it didnt help that much. Im debating whether or not to try to get one to boost the signal on the otherside of my house ...

If you do recommend it, are regular linksys g routers (WRT54G i think) compatible with WDS technology. I don't want to buy one and find out its not compatible.. thanks for your help

Normally upgrading antennas to high gain is a better solution. So as you through a repeater in the works you will loose some of your speed.

I went with a stand along AP so I could position it for better coverage.

I would also recommend checking into stronger antennas.

I know WDS is accessable through DD-WRT firmware, not sure about the regular one.
