So, I've got a piece of crap Belkin Pre-N router that is in the main floor of a rectangle house, at the very corner of the house. My computer is in the opposite corner of the house on the second floor, along with my sisters. We both get very poor wireless signal, and with my XPS M1530 on order, I want excellent signal everywhere I go. So, my father agreed to run a cat 5e cable to the upstairs kitchen which is located relatively in the middle of the house. What I was thinking is, I want both ethernet ports up there AND a wireless access point (so I get excellent strength on the second floor, so I think I need a WAP?).
Here's the configuration I was thinking of doing:
Belkin Pre-N Piece-o-Crap[may get replaced] ( LONG ETHERNET CORD) D-Link 10/100 Switch ( VERY SHORT ETHERNET CORD 6" OR SO) Wireless Access Point
Would that work fine and good? Or, would I want a WRT54G and flash DD-WRT onto it like a friend said? Or, is there another option to keep this relatively cheap?
Thanks!

depends on how much you want to spend...and what your opinion of relatively cheap is...imo...if you want to encorporate a WAP...my choice for you would be a NetGear WG102...about $120.00 - $130.00 U.S...disable the wireless part of your router...and use the WAP for the wireless side...the WG102 comes with a 100mW booster integrated within itself...this should take care of you quite nicely
Edit: No offence if your not from the U.S.A...but the Netgear Pro Line comes with U.S. tech support -
I've got the WG102 at my house and it works just fine.

I second A#1, do not save money in buying a WAP, try to get the best netgear with MIMO and extended coverage range.
Wireless network not enough, needing more
