Alright. I have a laptop with a intel wireless network card.
Theres total of 2 laptops and a desktop computer.
they all have connection except for mine.
I checked all the wirless in range. I choose the right one, typed in the network key. It connected but the status was "limited or no connectivity"
    and the internet dosen't work.

How come my laptop cant conenct and others can?

    1. try using the built in 'repair' command in windows (right click your wireless logo in the taskbar and click repair)

    2. Go to your routers setup page (usually 192.168.1.1) and turn off any encryption and see if this solves your problem for the time being

    3. turn off any firewalls and see if that works

come back and tell us what happens next!

Limited or no connectivity usually means that the computer cannot obtain the IP address from the DHCP Server (router).
Please try to increase the number of IP addresses that your router can issue (it's on the router configuration page somewhere)

If you are using the Intel Proset utility than dump it and try again using the wireless utility which comes with windows.

Also make sure that the Router is set up as a DHCP server, becuase if it isn't you would need to manually enter your ip address.

Leshii is right, -if the DHCP server is set up - the also make sure that the router can assign enough IP addresses. (although i wouldnt have thought this would be a problem since the default on most routers is 100)

how do i increase the number of ip adress?
i have tried repairing but it couldnt finish repairing when it got to the part where it was renewing the ip adress.
And about dumping the intel wireless card, is that really necessary?

    btw i use
    IntelĀ® PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection

    and linksys router

What nucleus is saying is don't use the software that came with the card, use the wireless zero config. that is built into XP. Sometimes this works better than the software from the manufacturer.

its got nothing to do with the software, this definitely sounds like an IP address problem. You will need to read you instruction manual of your router i'm affraid, and if you still can't work it out, then give their techincal support hotline a ring.

Make sure you get the latest driver for intel. There is a major problem with one of the release. The same symptoms you are describing.

Try WPA. It's a better encryption scheme anyway. It's a little more taxing on the router, though.

WPA Shared Key. Either copy and paste the key and/or write it down, is case sensitive. The encryption is only as good as the key. So longer the better.

You can still connect by setting your computer to an address in the same subnet as the router, ex: if your router's ip is 192.168.0.1 then set your computer to 192.168.0.x where x is any number from 2-255 which is not being used by any other computer on the network. And set your subnet mask to 255.255.255.0 your default gateway to your router 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 depending on your router, and your primary dns server to your router, again 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1.

To change your ip address right-click the wireless icon in the system tray, select "open network connections", then right click on Wireless Network Connection, select properties, and double click on Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)
