I have a few questions regarding my (new) wireless network and setting up a Slingbox. I don't expert you guys (and gals) to be experts on the Slingbox, but they are just general network questions and I'm sure you all are experts on that stuff!

I'm upgrading my home network in the near future. I currently have a D-Link DIR-655 router on the way. As of right now, that's my only networking device. This whole upgrade idea of mine started with me wanting to get a Slingbox so I could watch football at work on the weekends (I know). I currently have a Linksys g router (I think) and wanted to upgrade (I have a new laptop with a wireless N card).

Here is where my question(s) come... The Slingbox will be connected directly to my cable box. From there I was originally going to hardwire it into the router for optimal speed; however, I don't think that's going to work anymore. If I'm not mistaken, the D-Link 655 only has one Ethernet connection. That connection would need to be used to connect my router to the cable modem, thus leaving me 1 Ethernet port short of being able to connect the Slingbox directly into the router. What are my options here?

Through my very minimal knowledge of networking I came to the conclusion that I needed, or could use, a wireless ethernet bridge. This would allow me to connect the Slingbox to the bridge and connect to my wireless network, correct? I know Slinbox manufactures a device called the Turbo that basically turns your home phone jacks into Ethernet connections. This is their way of connecting your Slingbox to a router that is not in close proximity. This device, however, costs more than a wireless N bridge and I've heard is not very compatible with Vista. Does anyone have other suggestions? Would my idea of the bridge me optimal? Am I just too dumb to comprehend this stuff and completely missed something (like the router actually having more than 1 Ethernet port)?

    Any advice/suggestions appreciated! Thanks!

    1. You are mistaken

    2. Yes, the router has one WAN port and 4 LAN ports.
