Hi. My wireless keeps disconnecting every few minutes. It usually disconnects for like 15-20 seconds then reconnects. Really annoying as it will drop me when playing games. Internet works fine when hardwired in, so I know it's a problem with my router's wireless.

Here is a screenshot of the networks around me.

I have full signal strength and am the only person on channel 8.

TELUS reps said there was interference and too many devices on my network. (2 laptops, 3 phones, 1 tablet) I never had any bandwidth problems with Shaw or previous ISPs. I have a 15 down/1 up so there should be plenty of bandwidth.

It's also very weird because this just started happening yesterday, and although I just got TELUS installed this week, it worked fine the first 5 days.

It may be a problem with a router (especially if it's not a particularly good one) so it's possible that the router may start acting up after several days from booting.
Reboot the router and see if that helps for a while.

Also check with a different device if it's a router issue or a computer issue. Once you get disconnected from a router immediately check if Wi-Fi works on a different device.
If it does- chances are that the problem is on notebook's side.

Also- are you using Bluetooth devices, child monitors or a cordless phone that operates on 2.4GHz band? All of those are responsible for interference on 2.4GHz band (some to a lesser extents but all are)

I did reboot the router and didn't solve anything.

It's definitely a router issue. Wifi will disconnect from all of our laptops.

Not using bluetooth, but have 2.4 ghz cordless phone.

If you use a 2.4GHz cordless phone- it is possible that it's interference. There are only a few wireless channel in use where you are so try changing Wi-Fi channel- this way you may be able to avoid the exact frequency the phone is working on.

It's also possible that the router you were given is crap- what router is it exactly? Is there any way to update firmware on it?

Yeah, I've tried channels 1, 6 and 11. No help.

The router was supplied by my ISP -- actiontec v1000h I think. Can't use my own router because my ISP won't supply just a 'gateway'.

I was thinking maybe it's my bandwidth? I have a 15 Mbps connection, but my TV is also run on my internet line and takes up 6 Mpbs according to the tech. So that leaves me with technically only 9 Mbps bandwidth.

Even if TV is using some bandwidth you shouldn't be disconnected from the network- it should only slow down a bit.
Chances are the Actiontec provided by your ISP may be a bit... crap.
