I own a Sony Vaio notebook model VGN-A190. I would like to know if it is possible to upgrade the internal hardware for the wireless receiver. Too often I'm unable to detect a wireless network when other notebooks have no problem. What are my options if any? Thanks in advance

On the bottom of your laptop you should have a small door that the wireless card is under. You should have an Intel PRO/Wireless 2200 BG Mini-PCI card in there. The best wireless card I've found for range are the Atheros AR5006 cards. You can pick up a Mini-PCI one for less than $50, and get the latest driver from here.
