Recently tried to transfer files from my old laptop to my new one. Both wirelessly connected to an ADSL router. I have quite a lot of stuff to move and was using the general Windows Network file sharing method after having put both laptops in the same workgroup.

It took around one hour to transfer a Gb of data, is this slow? or am i doing something obviously wrong. The router wasnt being used for anything else at the time and all the equipment is in the same room.

Should I just ethernet the laptops to the router for better transfer speeds or would it be worth buying a crossover cable for this type of thing?

    thanks

802.11b 11Mbps, 802.11g 54Mbps, 802.11a 54Mbps. Now those are the specs in a perfect environment. expect a little less depending on where the router/WAP is located in the house/office, as well as the building materials the radio waves have to go through to get to your pc's.

But to get a megabyte/kilobyte transfer rate instead of megabit/kilobit divide the specs I gave you by 8.
