I have the Intel 3945 wireless card in my Asus W3J and I have a D-Link DI-624 G Router. When I double click the wireless icon on the bottom right hand corner of the screen and keep it open, I see the speed constantly changing from 36Mbps - 48Mbps - 54Mbps. It doesn't stay put at 54Mbps like it should. How can I fix this? I am not using the IntelWirelessProSet software. Any ideas?

Try changing the channel on the router to either 1 or 11 if you haven't already done so.
How far are you away from the router? How many obstacles (walls, doors, etc) are between you and the router? Depending on your circumstance you may either have to move your router or possibly add a high gain antenna. -
Are you near the WAP? It changes in relation to the amount of signal that you're getting. If it gets too much noise, it backs off on speed to get more reliable throughput. See if it keeps solid when you're notebook is right near the WAP. If so, then you might need a new router. But if you don't notice the actual speed (as in, copying files, internet, etc.) fluttering, it really doesn't matter.
Wireless connection speed keeps changing
