I plugged in an external monitor to my thinkpad, was able to use the internet. But after I let it go to sleep mode and woke up, the connection was no longer there, and can't get back until restarting the computer. How to prevent if from happening again?

Allow the screen saver to work but do not allow the computer to sleep.
