Hey guys. I'm thinking of replacing the intel N2230 in my Clevo w230st. I was thinking of getting the Killer Wireless 1202, but first I thought I'd get some input you guys. Basically, the reason I'm replacing the N2230 is because living in a university campus, the wifi connection is simple not stable enough. Whenever I Skype, the quality is horrible and when I'm playing online games, my ping is generally low, but then it spikes ever so often to hundreds of milliseconds.

So basically, my point is, will the Killer 1202 bring significant improvements in terms of range, connection stability and ping? If not, what sub-USD60 card would you recommend? For example, should I go for an intel ultimate 6300 instead?

Not sure about killer cards since I've never owned on, but I find them way overpriced for what you get. If you have a 3 antenna u.fl antenna plugs in your laptop get the Intel 6300. They have proven record of being fast, very long range, and stable. Otherwise, if you have a 2 u.fl antenna plugs get the Intel 7260 AC since it's super fast (~40 MB/s) and rock stable @ 5 GHz band though it has questionable stability at 2.4 GHz. Well, the Intel 7260AC won't give you any speed boost at 2.4 GHz anyways so you must also upgrade your router to WiFi AC to fully exploit their capabilities.

The 2.4ghz band normally has better range so if you're far from the router it may be your best bet.

A new wireless card should be paired with a router that can use the cards abilities.

    Intel AC-7260 with Netgear R7000,Asus68U,Linksys6900
Intel 6300 and Killer 1103 using 3rd antenna with any of the above routers plus Netgear WNDR4500 and other quality dual band 450Mbps routers
Killer 1102/1202 and Intel N-7260 with all of the above routers plus Netgear WNDR3700v4 and other high quality dual band 300Mbps routers.

    Routers should have latest firmware

Killer wireless drivers starting with the latest release v2 1.1.38.1281 use generic Atheros drivers with Killer Network Manager

Intel driver version should be carefully chosen to get best stability and performance on different bands.

Naturally your Internet service, the site your connecting to,your router settings, distance and line of sight with the router plus a lot of other things can impact wireless networking.
