    hi there...

I have some basic knowledge of network, i have some experience with windows though.

I have 2 laptops using a wireless router to access the internet. 1 of the laptops has hooked up a external HDD with HD movies, and shares it with the whole network. The 2nd laptop wanting to watch some HD movies cause some image failure, or when transferring huge files take ages, because of the bandwidth so to sort it out, I plug a network cable between then to make this more smoothly.
Now for example restarting the both computers, with the wire AND wireless connected and when the 2nd laptop tries to access any file it uses the WIRELESS instead of the cabled which should be the optimal option for any the file transfer.
to deal with it that, the 2nd laptop needs to shuts down the wireless start any file transfer and re-enable the wireless to get access to the internet
the cables are not always hooked so Im looking for a easy and "dynamic" way to do that.
The question is, how to make this process of accessing files clean to (both windows vista) be done by cables whenever they are available?

    All the best Beto

I noticed this issue on Vista. If you are connected to multiple networks, Wi-Fi and LAN at the same time, Wi-Fi will be preferred.

DISABLE WIFI on both laptops when using the cable. No point in having wi-fi and lan at the same time if you don't use a VPN.

Why would this be considered a bug? It may not be to the liking of experienced networkers, but it probably makes networking a lot smoother for the typical consumer who is, after all, the primary audience for this OS.
