I recently purchased a Linksys WRT54GL Wireless Router and I installed DD-WRT on it today. I'd like to connect it to my DSL Gateway (Actiontec 1524).

Ideally, I'd let the Gateway handle DHCP and NAT, but let the 54GL handle the firewall and port forwarding (I've not had any success with port forwarding or VPN access with the Actiontec with the firewall up).

Anyway, I believe that I got most of the 54GL set up, but I'm unable to connect it's WAN port to a LAN port on the gateway! I'm only able to access the 54GL via one of it's LAN ports (I'm not even starting on the Wireless aspect yet).

So my question is - could someone lend me some insight as to why I'm unable to connect the WAN port of the Linksys WRT54GL to a LAN port of the Actiontec 1524? I had "some" success before I flashed DD-WRT, but it was unreliable and inconsistent among different PCs.

    Thanks!

I hope this helps; I have two WRT54G's. The first one is connected from its WAN port to the DSL modem. The second one has its WAN port connected to a LAN port on the first. Wireless is disabled on the first one and it serves as a firewall-of-sorts between my DSL connection and the second WRT54 which is running wireless. Computers on the first router can see computers on the wireless router - but computers on the wireless cannot see any systems on the first router.

You need to turn off DHCP in the linksys since the actiontec is handling it, and it should work.

My Actiontec Gateway is at 192.168.0.1. I placed the Linksys WRT54GL Router at 192.168.0.100 (so it would be on the same subnet - I also tried 192.168.0.2). I disabled DHCP on the Linksys. If I connect my PC to the Linksys (LAN port) and the Linksys to my Gateway through a LAN port on the Linksys, I can access my entire LAN plus the internet. If I connect the Gateway to the WAN port on the Linksys Router, I can't even access the Linksys Router!

I've tried every combination that I can think of - so I'm hopeful that someone has a similar setup that they've made work. Again my setup is:

An Actiontec 1524 Gateway - DSL in and 4 LAN ports out. Configured on 192.168.0.1 with DHCP enabled. Which works on it's own except I'm not been able to get port forwarding to work with the firewall enabled nor am I able to get VPN access to remote networks with the firewall enabled and finally, I'm expecting to receive my new laptop next week, so I hope to disable its firewall and place most of my PC behind the Linksys firewall (including WLAN).

A Linksys WRT54GL Wireless Router with DD-WRT installed (v23 SP2), configured on 192.168.0.100 with DHCP disabled (I also tried DCHP Forwarding).

What do I need to do to be able to access the Linksys Router through it's WAN port (i.e. I'd like to connect the WAN port of the Linksys to a LAN port on the Action tec Gateway)? Any thoughts?

    Thank you,

    - Kevin
