I want to buy a wireless router but not sure of which brand to get. My laptop will be a HP Compaq 8510p and it only has a/b/g connections and not the new n connection.

I would appreciate it if you could give me some recommendations.

    Thanks

Don't buy Benkin routers. At my home we had one which after 8 months started to have problems and needing a reboot (the router) almost every day. We then bought another Benkin router, more recent, which every now and then (about every two weeks) lost its configuration and went back to factory settings.

My dad then decided to pay more and buy a Linksys router, which works fine. However, Linksys considerably overprices their products (usually cost 50-100% more than other brands). I have moved into my own place now and the Internet provided gives a Thompson router for free which not only works fine but has a much better firmware and interface than Linksys or Benkin.

In short: Benkin is crap, Linksys is overpriced, Thompson is good.

Linksys WRT54G is very popular and that's what I have. Works very well.

Netgear is ok. I would look at one of the Linksys or D-link routers and some of the off brand manufactures as well. Just make sure you read up on reviews for both to get their best model, which there should be plenty at this point because most all new routers are N.

    Here are good starting points:

I currently use the SMC2804WBR... a really old router I know...

my question : I have Intel N Wireless in my laptop (should arrive this week yay) so i'm just wondering what 802.11 Draft-N routers are recommended? and if I should wait a few weeks to buy one since, imo, the prices for these N routers are a little overpriced atm... maybe if I can find one on sale or something...
