I have an Hp Pavilion dv5030us

I'm having some trouble with wireless LAN connections. The computer detects the networks but has some trouble connecting to them. I have tried with my college connection, my friend’s house and a local Dennis. All connections are "open", meaning most people don't have to do anything special to connect but I always seem to have trouble connecting.

When I do connect it constantly hangs on “Acquiring Network Address”. I have been able to connect stable, however most of the time it’s constantly disconnecting. The Acquiring Network Address message rarely disappears.

When I got the computer I formatted the HD and reinstalled Windows and installed the drivers from the DVD but I almost did not install any of the applications.

Do I need any special programs??

sometimes resetting of the routers helps, but if they are college networks then they arn't and many users use them so...

Make sure you have the most updated drivers. If you need to go to your card manufacturer's website (intel, atheros...etc). Hopefully that helps a little, you can also change your card's roaming function to make it more sticky. That helped me quite a bit.

This Laptop has a turion procesor

    I have a broadcom 802.11b/g WLAN Adapter

    I have the latest drivers.

My friend has a Compaq Presarion v5000 Notebook and they seem to have the same card. I checked driver versions , and setings on windows and they were all equal one by one.

All the networks that I have tried are public and open so I don't know what to do.

Is it possible that I got a defective card??
