My roommate and I have had our internet hooked up for several weeks now, and it has worked fine. However, in the last 2-3 days, we have started having problems maintaining a constant connection. We both continue to have local and internet access, but the actual connection speed will drop until it is impossible to actually do anything on the internet. Resetting the router will fix the problem for about 20 minutes, and then it happens again. Consequently, we have spent the last 3 days constantly resetting our router so that we can maintain reasonable connection speeds.

I know it's not a computer/os problem, because I have a 1520 running Vista, and he has a Lenovo running XP, so it has to be a problem with the router (right?).

I have no idea what to do. Help?

have you got the routers WEP switched on ?

sounds like you may have a leach(some one is using your wifi connection).

Yes, the WEP is enabled. I can't imagine it's someone stealing our connection, because in college there were four of us on the same router, and it worked out fine.

If you can try switching out the router with a different one,and see if you have the same problem.

Switch over to WPA TKIP or AES, vista works better with it. You may have a over heating problem. See this a lot with residential equipment.

Test with a wired connection to see if it's the complete router or just the AP side.
