Buy a Linksys wireless router. Stick with A/B/G; don't bother getting any router that has a draft version of the new N band.

If you buy a Linksys WRT54G stay way from v5, Get either a v4 or GL (linux) model. Dlink and Netgear both make good routers.

unless there's a guarentee of firmware/hardware upgrade that comes with it. I know that ASUS is making that guarentee on its draft-n wireless devices.

11n draft or not, if it works properly. If there is a 11b/g AP in the area that it sees it should (required) drop back to the 11g std. Resulting in NO GAIN. Now if you live in the country with no neighbors go for it.

netgear routers are always good :)

i've had my netgear mr814 802.11b router for 2+ years on constantly and its dropped perhaps 4 times (2 power cuts, 1 firmware update on it and 1 time it just spacked out)

I had an MR814b and it was fine on cable but when I moved to my uncle's house who has DSL, the thing just never worked right. Needed several reboots a day, got slow speeds... I love my WRT54g v4 now.

WRT54g if you want cheap or WRT54GX, GX2, or GX4 if you want some more range. I've had great results with all of those models.

I have a v5, and a v1.1. The v5 is fine, especially if you aren't into hacking it. Netgear and Dlink have caused me nothing but headaches.

FYI, I have had 4-5 laptops using WPA connecting to my v5 WRT54g simultaneously, and it was fine.
