I am moving into a loft style apartment complex in 2 weeks. i want to upgrade my router and get a wireless n. What would be my best option? The Linksys WRT160N-RM has me looking, especially for the price.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

I would suggest a dual band wireless router to avoid overly crowded 2.4GHz band, especially in apartment situation where neighbors are close.

I had two Linksys 160's. Both went back to Amazon after a few days.
I second the dual band option. Although, your computer needs to be pretty close because the 5ghz band has a very short range. -
Well i will be very close to it so that wont be an issue. What is a good dual band option

If you are price sensitive and not going to use the old wireless b/g standard (which uses 2.4GHz band), then WRT320N is one of the options since it's a good performer of the 5GHz band. Actually, WRT320N still can be backward compatible with b/g standard if configured at 2.4GHz. But since it's not a simulataneous dual band wireless router, then you wouldn't get what it's best at.

I second aidil on the Linklsys 320. The 400 works a little better but it's a lot more expensive.
If price is not a concern, the Netgear 3700 is an excellant choice. It's running at around $170.00 -
Yup! Agree with johnw91498, currently WNDR3700 is one of the options for the simultaneous one. Although it costs almost double of the WRT320N.

trying to keep the price sub 100$. Will the WRT320N give me better speeds then my current linksys g router? Most of the time I will be 10-20 feet away. Might use it outside by the pool with would be 15 yardsish

What kind of wireless card is used in your laptop? If it's a wireless n card, then of course its connection speed to WRT320N, although it would depend on many conditions, generally is supposed to be better than to your current wireless g router. You should have known that most wireless n connection could have the speed up to 300Mbps, while OTOH your current wireless g (by standard) could only have the speed up to 54Mbps.
About the reach/range, this is different matter. Especially if you would like to use the 5GHz band, then you should be aware that it has smaller coverage area compared to using 2.4GHz band. But this shorter range usually fits apartment situation.
If you like, you can still keep using your current linksys wireless g router (to serve the 2.4GHz band) and use it together with WRT320N set to serve as wireless n at the 5GHz band.
Wireless N router and best route for me
