I've read the thread on the speeds of Wireless N and how it hasn't been ratified yet. My question is whether a laptop bundled with a wireless N card (e.g. Dell 1520 if you select the option) can use the a/b/g standards which are currently in use while retaining the ability to use the N standard if it is ratified as is.

The Wireless N card in my notebook is backword compatible, but that doesn't mean manufacturer's might not make some which aren't. Most of the time they list the other options on the name of the card if it is backword compatible. For example, mine is referred to as Intel PRO Wireless 4965 802.11 a/g/n card.

If the name on Dell's site isn't descriptive enough feel free to ask in the Dell Forums. Other 1520 owners could likely tell you what type of card is included or what your options are in terms of the card. I would imagine it is a high likelihood that it is backword compatible, but you should probably make sure if you plan to use it on a G or A network.

Another option is to call the Dell sales department and ask them.
