It should work with almost any router... if your router is not using 802.11n, it will simply use G or B, depending on what your router uses.

if you are ordering a new dell laptop, i would order the 1505 n card ,and highly recomend the ,d-link DIR-655 n router, this is a great router

You can use that card with existing network gear, no need to buy anything.
Buying a draft n router will not speed up your internet, only file transfer inside your network. -
Wireless-N cards are completely backwards compatible.

The 2wire should have a 11g. If you want to connect a router to it you will be required to switch the 2wire router to Bridge Mode. 11n is only useful if you want to move large files internally. Don't expect any distance improvements.

the new 802.11n standard does improve on both distance and speed. The problem is its still in draft stages - now, there are three draft specs at the moment, draft 1.0, 2.0 and 2.1. People are saying that draft 2.0 and above will be a simple firmware upgrade to the final 802.11n spec however by that time draft 1.0 will become obsolete.
The problem is, most adapters and mini cards (as the one in the dell) are 2.0 compatable but most (if not all) the Draft N routers out there are draft 1.0, so it is highly likely that they will not be able to upgrade to the final spec next year.
By all means, get the wireless-n card in your new dell - just dont bother buying a new router just yet unless you have a lot of money. You can use the N specification with your older G routers and you can expect a bit of signal improvement. -
yep. Wireless N-cards normally work with all n-draft routers (it did for my Dlink DIR625) and it is backwards compatible.

The problem with early draft is that all mfg are doing there own thing and do not work with each other. Just look at the 11g 108mbps and 126mbps routers. The only way to get those speeds are with matching hardware. the 11n spec is suppose to address these problems. I will wait and see. With only 1 dbi gain (non -upgradeable) antennas my 11g will smoke it on distance (300' line of site).
