    1) Will a laptop having 5 Ghz wireless card work with a router having 2.4 Ghz network?
    2) How do I know whats the frequency of my current laptop card?

If the card that has 5 gigahertz will also operate on 2.4. What kind of card did you currently have installed in your system

This card is 2.4GHz only co you would have to replace both a router and a card to move your network to 5GHz band.

thanx. my main concern was whether a 5 Ghz card will work in a 2.4 Ghz router network.
As per homank76, it will. :)

All 5GHz cards are in fact dual-band so these work in both 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks.

Yup, 5GHz isn't mainstream enough to warrant having 5GHz only adapters, that would lock you out of most wireless network. I'm lucky to even have 5GHz capable APs at university and among my circle of friends, i am the only one with a dual band router so i definitely need 2.4GHz capabilities.
