After downloading some files using BitComet about two weeks ago, my wireless connection started to disconnect itself about every 25 minutes even though the wireless signal shown on the task bar is always excellent. Each time the wireless disconnects the MSN Messenger will indicate that "The default gateway seems to be offline".

Can anyone help me out with this mess?

P.S.: I have a Netgear RangeMax Wireless Router.

Have you tried resetting your router? If that doesn't fix the problem I would say that you might want to system restore and see if that makes a difference... Just a couple of thoughts. :) Hope this helps!

The suggestion to try resetting your router is a good one - the router is your "default gateway" so the message (if it's accurate) is essentially stating that there's a problem at your router.

If the router seems fine, you might check to see if there's anything on your computer that tries to repetitively access the internet, in which case the router might be interpreting those attempts as an attack of some sort and may be ignoring/dropping the requests, and possibly also your computer. If your router has a security logging function (and it's enabled), you might find some clues there - I found a little nasty on one of my systems that way.

May want to look at the energy settings. It may be dropping it to save energy. Real common on NB. You will find the settings in 2 places, the CP and advanced port settings.

Well, I reset the router before I started this thread. So I tried to do a system restore and a reset again yesterday night. At first it didn't seem to work too. But this morning when I went online, everything is up and running again without the disconnection problem. Guys, thanks a lot! ;)
