    Wireless Connectivity (Intel)

    I have been running my beast (see sig) for about a month now. Since day one there has been something that has bugged me. My connectivity is at times very strange.

    It started with playing WoW. As soon as I connected, my Internet would immediately crash. I had to forcefully reboot both the Router and Modem to re-establish network communication. (The signal was present, but non-funcitonal.) I have since corrected that problem for the most part.

    However, the annihilation still continues through other random acts. Often, during strenuous downloads (Bit Torrent), or large HTTP hits with huge imagery will kick me offline. Basically, it seems like any large load kicks me off.

    I am able to connect to the neighbors networks no problem however. Also, I don't ever remember having a network annihilation would borrowing their bandwidth.

    Another strange bit of quirks I have discovered. When I mean network annihilation, I mean it. Phsyical connections fail as well. Sometimes the signal is listed as active, even though it can't be accessed. Cannot even connect to the Modem or Router through HTTP/IP request.

    I have the Intel ProWireless 3945ABG card, and a Netgear WGT624v2 (though status shows v3 hardware). I was letting the Intel control the adapter, but now have Windows in charge. I seem to get slightly better connectivity, and when th enet does crash, it seems to be able to pick it back up after 5-10 minutes.

    I have tried using almost eveyr channel, (especially 1, 6 and 11), and synching those in the Intel settings. I also have tried messes with the adapters settings with power and environment settings.

    Any help?

    kylerg - Everything you have described is exactly what I was going through. Like you, I was doing everything in my power to trouble shoot it before I contacted Dell (even though I knew it was an issue with the E1705, as my other laptop ran flawlessly). Unfortunately my computer took a dive (we believe a bad motherboard) before I could resolve the network problems. I honestly believe my network problems is related to the motherboard issue. I don't know what casused what, but it is only logical that the two are related.

    kylerg - I just got off the phone with Dell and instead of me having to ship the E1705 back to the depot, they are sending me out a new one. Just a FYI, you might want to contact them so you don't get into the same bind that I did.

    It could be that, or it could be a flaky router. Did you try another computer with your router to see if it exhibited the same symptoms?
