Hi Guys! I've been searching on the forum's threads in order to find an issue related to mine, but unfortunnatelly, I didn't found anyone with the same problem.

I have an HP DV1688 US, and it has a Intel Wireless 3945abg wireless network adapter and it was used to work fine on my home wifi network. Somehow, it now behaves in the following way: When I turn on the notebook, with the wireless switch on, it startup windows and began to search for a network available. When it found out my router, it connects to the router, but, after a very short time (about 10 s) the connection drops, it says that it have no connectivity, and then, connects again, 10s latter, connection drops and so on. While in the short time it is connected, I have no connectivity to the wi-fi network.

Did anyone know why this is happenend? Is this have any solution?

Thanks a lot, any attention will be appreciated!

how many metre is the distance between the laptop and the router?
how strong is the signal before?

probably your neighbour bought some wifi router and it is interfering with your connection. if so; you can go into the router setup menu and change the channel your router is broadcasting. (generally; the default is #11).
or it could be an interference from cordless telephone..

btw, for some strange reason; recently i'am having this problem also with my macbook. though my HP hx2750 (pda) still catching the signal just fine, but the connection is not good also...

Hi Wobble, thanks a lot for your reply!

Well, the connection before wasn't good, I even started another thread here asking if I there's any way of improve the network range, it helped but not solve at all. The distance between the notebook and the router is not greater then 20 meters. I didn't found any new wifi router on the neightborhood, and I doubt on this because I don't have many neighbors next to my home. Also, my brother's toshiba connects into the router without issue.

If I change the channel of the notebook's wifi adapter, will I have to change something on the router configuration? It's a linksys wrt 54g, and I must say that, for home purposes, this router is very very good.

Interference from cordless telephone I also doubt because we don't have any 2.4 Ghz cordless phone on home, only some 900MHz phones and they're not next from the router or the notebook, they're more than (minimum) 60 meters from them.

Could the network adapter has been cracked by the heat or something? One of these days I left it on my couch for some hours, and when I get back (I went to watch the Superbowl with friends, can you believe in it? I'm from Brazil and I'm crazy about the Colts for a long time!) the computer was very hot, but I didn't try to connect to anywhere, only turned if off and went sleep.

Thanks a lot for your reply and good luck on the macbook issue!!

Guys, I'm really dissapointed about this issue. Could it be a virus or something like this?

Do anyone think that the wifi network adapter could have just crashed because of the laptop heat?

    Thanks all in advance!

Does this happen on other PC/notebooks in the house or just your notebook (all on the network)?

    Ditto on that.

And by any chance is your router on its latest firmware? It may well be a router-end problem.

Also, are your Intel Wireless drivers up to date?

In fact, the very lattest firmware of the router implements some new security feature, but it doesn't allow my palms devices to connect into the internet.

One day I've downloaded all firmwares and start installing one by one, from the most up to date to the most older one. I've found a firmware that allows me to use all the router features and with e very good quality.

About the drivers of the notebook, I will update it tonight, when I get home!

    Thanks you all!

Guys, I was so worried because I thought that my issue was something physical, some kind of damage on the network card, I was afraid that the notebook heat melted some component of the card.

I didn´t remembered about any changes made into the configuration of the notebook, but, latter today, my girlfriend has told me that she accept one of those windows updates.

To solve the issue, I followed one of yours advices, I only get the latest driver of my network card, unistalled the network cards (Both the WIFI and the LAN), uninstalled all driver software from windows, then, installed the new software, reboot and then I let windows find all network cards drivers again.

    Done!

Thank you all for your support and attention!

Good to hear you fixed it. If it happened to your whole network, it would have been the router or the cable modem. If it ever happens, and it's not the router, check the cable modem. If you use a splitter to split the cable line with the TV, you can lose stability and the modem will reset randomly and can stay down for hours at a time. If that ever happens, have the cable man give the cable modem its own coaxial cable (he would have to drill another cable into the wall and feed it to the main box).

It might be that you or someone else had the "how many connections" settings at a certain number instead of unlimited.

Now that you installed the differ software or Drivers it probally defaulted back to "Unlimited Connections"

    I know that happens alot.
