Ok everybody, I'm going to try to give you as much info on this problem as I can... So first of all, this is what I'm running:
Asus G2S-A1, 2GB RAM, Intel Centrino Duo, Windows Vista . Let's see.... the wireless card is an Intel 4965AGN.
Second of all, the problem that I'm having specifically is that I'll connect to my school's wireless network and it will do just fine with that. Then about 45 minutes later it will drop the connection and never let me back in again. Sometimes -- however, not always -- it will give me a balloon notification at the bottom right in the toolbar about me needing to give the server more information. I know, you think I'm an idiot and I just didn't give it that information, but you're wrong, I've given the (^#@42* server my information (user id and password) a bagillion times and it just never connects again (except one time which didn't last very long anyway...).
The security type is 802.1X and the encryption type is WEP. The problem clearly seems to be that the server only remembers that I gave it my authentication for a short period of time and then never remembers or accepts it again no matter what I do.
Well, if anyone can help me... you're awesome.
That is all, thank-you.

Maybe some interference, a 2.4g cordless phone perhaps?

Buy a cheap USB wireless adapter and a cheap high gain antenna (or make one). Modify the wireless adapter to use the high gain antenna. That should give you excellent range without modifying your laptop.
If you aren't very good with DIY, you could use an umbrella covered in aluminum foil as a reflector to increase the range of an unmodified wireless adapter. Apply your knowledge of physics in using it, but sometimes the best thing to do is just experiment. RF is often weird...
Of which, why don't laptops include ports for external antennas? I think a manufacturer should start including them and market it towards those who frequently use wireless. It would cost less than a dollar to include it and the manufacturer can easily charge $20 or more just for that nice feature... And of course, $30 or more for a 9dBi antenna... -
Go to run type in CMD>type ipconfig/all, and look to see when your lease was obtained and when it will be released. Also try updating the drivers for your adapter. You may need to talk to tech support at your school, here something that will give more insight to 802.1x and how it works. http://www.wi-fiplanet.com/tutorials/article.php/1041171

Vista (MEII) and WEP do not play well with each other. WPA does not preset a problem.
Try taking your NB to the Schools IT dep and see if they have a fix for vista. -
i would use network stumbler to actualy show you the quality of signal in your college or uni * i get mixed up when in states* after your suveyed your college for the best spots i would do what star said and get a nice usb doggle and make yourself a directional antenna or a CANtenna ... and then run network stumber agian to see if your quality of signal is better =)
