I am having a strange problem with my new Sony Vaio laptop.

When I turn on the laptop and the wireless button the following appears:

    System Information:

The frequency band of 2.GHz wireless LAN and GHz wireless LAN are not compatible, please switch systems to same frequency in order to connect successfully.

How can I go about resolving this?

Sorry, I am a complete novice in relation to this. I can use my Dell laptop with no problems at all and the Sony Vaio works fine elsewhere.

Look under the port properties. You will find settings for US-Europe, channels ... I would use auto select. Make sure you port is set for your country as well as the router.
