After I fixed my computer concerning another problem, a problem with my wireless adapter came up. I logged in to Vista, but couldn't connect to the internet (but I am able to see the wireless networks), so I powercycled my router and modem, but nothing. I even ran Intel diagnostics, but it said my hardware had some problem. So after a day or two of frustration, I backed everything up and reformatted. After reformatting and reinstalling all drivers, I still couldn't connect to the internet. The diagnostics said my hardware was the problem again! What should I do?

Um... How do you do that?

I'm not too sure... Haven't tried yet. But I'm sure it's not the router's fault. My dad's laptop works fine.

Yes cud be that as well....

Best i suggest connect ur laptop to the router via a LAN cable and if u live in the US then it is probably 192.168.1.1....to access the router

overthere....if u have lost ur wireless key....configure ur wireless network to be open and do the same for ur wireless card in the wireless settings in windows....u cud also check if u have 802.11g....it is normally in the security settings of the router....!!

    for IPv6

Nope, I don't have WEP or WPA and I can't connect to my neighbor's open router either. As I said, all of my families' desktops and laptops can connect to my wireless router, just not mine.

Ah, I might just chat with Dell to see if they can replace that part or at least fix it. I'll see.

Try connecting via Ethernet (Internet Cable) & Check MAC filtering.

most likely your MAC filtering must be blocking u.

and finally read this thread: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=252393

They had to replace my motherboard.

I don't know... I think all of this happened because of one thing. My AC Adapter had a split wire and it may have lost connection, causing my computer, even though it is on battery, to shut down instantly, killing my HDD and my wireless adapter and who knows what else!

Nah...even if u take out your HD and Jump on it...drop noodles on it & jump off the building with it..

STILL it wont die....although it ll get damaged.

Do this...when the comp starts...try entering the BIOS. and setting it to default settings

EDIT: I know Monkey that u r reading this rite now...i think he ll also have to Uninstall & Re-install his Wireless drivers like i did once

Actually those are not broken pieces of HD...they are all Magnets stuck to them.

Magnets for HD are like Kryptonite for Superman.

So its better to use magnet than to break it.

    magnet permanently terminates the data

It all depends on what shape the disk is in. I know those magnets are strong because I salvage them too. The metal top on the drive should protect it pretty well. Put the drive back in and see if it boots, or take spinrite to it and see if it can recover/repair it. It's always best to destroy the drive with a hammer, beat it to a pulp you will be fine.

We knew they were magnets or other metal pieces on it but to ilustrate the latest coments this picture looked like a broken HDD, lol.
