I am buying a Dell Studio 15 and I have troubles deciding about the wireless.
I heard somewhere that between 5100 and 5300 you can only feel the difference if you have three antennas under the keyboard of the laptop.
Anybody knows if that's true or BS?
I travel a lot so I need to have range to take from different places maybe even public routers which are behind the corner...

Well since these are 3 wire based antennas cards it would have to be true.
Now are your going to be using this on a wireless router that has support for N band?
I have not used the 5100 but have the 5300 and well happy with it by the way these come in full & half size mini cards.

Now I don't really know whether I will have the N band support but I guess in future it will be more and more common. So i don't need to know whether in the computer there are the three antennas? :) But Imean dell won't put it otherwise, the possibility to get these cards if they are overkills, but actually Dell's upgrades system is often an overkill!

pianoblackbird, you answered your question yourself, 5300 requires 3 aerials and it's true that it has a bit better characteristics. Since you're buying a new laptop, and range and signal strength are important to you, I would recommend going for 5300, especially since the price difference shouldn't be big. However, as BlackRussian noted, you will be able to take full advantage of it when coupled with a N-router, whilst most public places still use G-band (I have even come across some B ones=)
