I currently have a Linksys BEFSX41 (two VPN Tunnels) and a Linksys WRT54GS plugged into one of the LAN ports acting as my wireless access point.

I was thinking of replacing these two routers with one. I know Linksys has a few models that can act as both (VPN / wireless) but was hoping to look at the new MIMO routers if I am going to upgrade.

My criteria is pretty simple. Two or three wireless machines one Hardwired. The ability to VPN (so VPN / IPSEC pass through) to the office and the ability to set up at least two VPN tunnels comming in.

Anyone have a similiar set up ? If so how is it working and what brand names do you have ? If not any suggestions ?

I wouldn't recommend upgrading to the MIMO since it's Pre-N technology. I'd wait until it becomes a standard before changing. With your current VPN connections on your router/WAP, you can only go as fast as your internet connection, so speed would not increase with the MIMO.

I kinda agree on Pre-N although not a huge deal if in 18 months I have to buy another router - they are relatively cheap.

How about any recomendations on a single WAP / VPN router ? I know the Linksys WRV54G is one , but I have read several bad reviews on this on. Wondering if anyone has any combo router . (I currently use two routers BEFSX41 for VPN and WRT54GS v 1.0 for wireless - just like to narrow my field of toubleshooting)

My setup is strange (may be WAP2 related) - it will be stable for days - then a flurry of disconnects - then stable for days again. Liveable but frustrating. Not heat related / Phone calls / etc ....

I have a netgear wgr614 WAP/router and I can run VPN to the university through it. Maybe that would work for you?

the problem you mentioned might be related to the VPN server. I couldn't connect to mine last night and I mentioned it to my department sysadmin today and he told me that the server over at IT was acting goofy and everyone was having problems all over campus. So maybe your VPN server is having issues, too?
