Hi I just received my laptop and i have the wireless PROSET 3945 and I receive connection perfectly, but the problem is when I start downloading stuff on the internet, like after 10 minutes programs like AIM shut off and then 2 minutes later all my downloads just stop and when I check my connection it says i'm still on event hough I can't connect to anything like internet explorer and so i have to reconnect to the router ... when I go to my friends house my wireless is fine and I can download ... I have the Netgear Router that goes up to 108 Mbps .. but when I connect it says 54 Mbps even though I have Comcast HIgh speed internet ... the my question is Why am I getting disconnected and Is there anyway I can get 108 Mbps? Thanks for the help

can you access your router managment console page? If so, make sure MAC address filtering is turned OFF. Your router management page is an IP address which you have to type into your web browser. If you cannot access your router page, wire up your computer via Ethernet or try accessing it on another computer if you have one....

    OR

    also try this:

    - go to start, connect to, show all connections.
    - right click your wireless connection
    - from the menu, click on properties at the bottom.
    - a new window called Wireless Connection 1 or something like that should come up
    - from that box in the middle, highlight Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)
    - click properties
    - a new window called Internet Protocol Properties should come up
    - click on Obtain an IP address automatically and obtain DNS server automatically

The reason why you are only getting a 54Mpbs connection is that the router supports 108Mbps, but your wireless networking card on your laptop only supports a maximum throughput speed of 54Mbps.

Are there any other networks visible near you? Do you have a cordless phone, or wireless mouse or any other wireless style peripherals? Things that operate in the 2.4GHz band will cause havoc with wireless signals. A stream of data (videos, etc.) is more susceptible to that than periodic connections (like web surfing)
