    Hi,

I have a dell E6420 with internal dell 5550 (ericsson F5521gw?) HSPA+ modem card. I want to be able to have internet access thru the internal modem while connected to a wired or wireless network which has no internet. I've done this with external 3g cards in the past but with the current setup, as soon as I connect to wired or wireless network I loose internet access.

    Anyone any ideas?

    Thanks,
    Adrian

Set the Interface Metric manually in each card's IPv4 settings. Set your 3G to 1, and wired to 2.

Thanks for the response, I though the answer may lie in metrics somewhere. I've tried your suggestion but still have the same problem.

I'm using Windows 7 pro and the network info clearly shows the 3G connection with internet and the wired with no internet

Is your 3G connection dropping when you plug in the Ethernet?

    No, the 3G remains connected.

Setting the metrics for the two should direct the Internet to the 3G card. Are you on Windows 7?

    Yes Windows 7 Pro.
    --------------------
Interface metrics in ipv4 is the way to go but using route print from the command prompt I saw that setting the 3G interface metric to 1 actually gave a metric of 258. I set the WiFi and wired interface metrics to 260 & 261 receptively and now all is well.

    Thanks WackyT for the pointers.

Wow! Wonder why it does that? Got to keep that in mind if I need to do a similar mod in the future.
