    Wired Connection Not Much better than Wireless???

    Hey All,
    Can anyone suggest an explanation as to why our tablets are clocking around 3000kb/s download
    speeds WIRELESS through linsys-b BUT ONLY around 4000 kb/s wired through same,
    WHILE our desktops clock 11-12,000kb/s on VERY SAME WIRE (switched cable from desktop pc to tablet)??

    11b is on 11mbps max, with real numbers in the 3mbps. I think you have a unit off. like 3000bps

    Thanks, though you've offered little to address the underlying question.
    All I know is the results I get from speedtest.net. Doesn't 12,000 kb/s translate to 1.2 mbps?
    (isn't that 2.8 fewer mbps than your 11-b assertion of "real numbers in the 3mbps." range ???)

    Run you own test using a large single file FTP transfer. With Netstat installed, it will give you the real number. Another site that is better is http://www.speakeasy.net/ Your results indicate it is not doing the actual test to your pc. Netstat will give you the real numbers. You alot of times see cached speeds not real.

    Thanks again, though we're still not addressing the underlying question.
    I'm not nearly as interested in what the speeds "REALLY ARE" as I am in the discrepancies between results for Desktop PC and Tablets (3 of them) on the same network,router, AND cable. As for cached results, I would expect same results every test, but I get differing results with each successive IP specific test so.... ????

    Tablet PC were not design for fast speeds, portability and long battery life. So you may be hitting the max buss speed on those units. Even though the number reported are not accurate, not even close. Use a ftp client and get some accurate numbers. XP has a TCP/IP stack limitation on wireless, that Vista does not have.

    Since you are not willing to get numbers that actually reflect and have a major impact on your thoughts. move on.
