So I know wired networks are out but I'm at school and I have no choice. Wireless is not availible in my dorm. I have an xps m1530 with vista/xp dual boot and a wired connection works fine on vista but my xp wont recognize it. In Vista, the computer automatically connects (via and ethernet port in my room-sorry I don't have any details regarding the network) but how would I go about fixing this problem and setting up such a network on XP? Thanks!

Once you booted with XP, do an ipconfig/all and post it.

Have you ever used a wired network on the XP partition before? Check the device manager to make sure it's functioning properly & appropriate drivers are installed.

Let me guess...you installed xp yourself? And you didnt install all of the drivers? Check your device manager for any "!" or "?" next to devices. Post a screen shot if you could of your device manager.
