What would you recomend as an alternative to zero config?
Also, let's say I have a wired network, but I wanna use my wireless laptop on that network. I can't change the router, it's not mine. Is there an inexpensive way to add wireless capability to an existing wired network?

To add wireless capability to an existing network is easy, just add a wireless accesspoint and you're set (of course you have to configure it as well).
Don't know of any alternative to the Windows Zero Config other than the drivers/software that is designed for the wireless card. If it's an Intel, it usually comes with the Intel ProSet software which allows you to configure your wireless card.

Yup; use the PRO/Set utility for the Intel cards, or the TrueMobile utilty for the (nicer) Dell (Broadcom) TrueMobile cards.

Sorry to bring a two years old thread up, but Im really looking for an alternative. I have an Intel 4965agn card, and I would like to see how it is connected - which band. Also, the speed shown in windows configuration is just absurd. Anything? thanks

Deja Vu! I guess I'm looking for the same answer as I've never bothered with checking my wireless as it's always been pretty fast and reliable.
Windows Zero Configuration alternative?
