I have a slight problem when accessing administrator shares from one of my pc's through wired LAN.

I prefer to connect to my other machines drives via IPC Shares, IE: By typing \\"computername"\C$ at the Windows Run box.

Anyways, I can do so fine from my Laptop to Desktop1, Desktop1 to laptop, Desktop2 to Laptop, Desktop2 to Desktop1, but NOT Laptop to Desktop2 or Desktop1 to Desktop2.

Every time, I get an error message:

\\"computername"\x$ (X is the disk drive letter i'm wanting to access):
No network provider accepted the given network path

This is very strange, as it's only happened since I reformatted desktop2, using the same slipstreamed and nLite'd WindowsXP Install cd I always use.

All machine are running WindowsXP Professional, Service Pack 2.

    Any help? Any ideas?

run network wizard on desktop2? check if desktop2 has File and Print Sharing Service installed? Check firewall logs on desktop2 to see if it is blocking data from those IPs, if so, make sure your firewall allows file sharing on a LAN (test it by disabling the firewall temporarily).

Windows Firewall appears to have been the culprit.

Strange, seeing as that it has always worked in the past :/

you probably don't need to completely turn it off, just go into the Exceptions tab on the Windows Firewall and make sure File and Printer Sharing is checked. also, windows firewall isn't the best, I would upgrade. there are free ones that are better.

Do you have simple file sharing enabled on your newly formatted machine? If you browse your Network Places from the laptop or desktop1, do you see desktop2, and do you have access?

Simple file sharing disabled, as it always was.

Browsing the network, desktop 2 did appear.

Managed to fix it completely :D

I reinstalled the Microsoft File and Printer Sharing service on the network adaptor :)

Thanks for all your help guys!
