    Hi,

I am interested in purchasing an Apple Airport Extreme, however I was told by an apple representative that the Apple router would only use the faster N-network if all the computers on the network were N capable otherwise the network would revert back to the slower g network.

Is there any router which will allow me to have laptops in the network which are only wireless-g capable and yet still allow me to connect the wireless-N capable laptops to an N network?

    Thanks

In mixed mode it should be able to do N and G at the same time. The DIR-655 is currently the fastest n router at the moment and can do mixed mode.

I keep hearing the same thing. This would be the first time I heard of mixed mode.

I just looked up the DIR-665 and its got alot of negative feedback on the net, seems to have issues...

Netgear only gives you 90days of Free tech support by phone. And online support. Netgear has alot of drivers issues. Took 9mo to get my FVS338 to work any where close to what it was advertised as, in way of basic features. This is where the negative feed back comes from.

Over a year ago the firmware was written by programmers in india. Netgear has now brought it back to the US in an attempt to correct the problems, have tighter control.

Draft N routers can run in mixed mode (802.11a, b/g, and n). But then the N network is not running at full speed and is limited. Greenfield (only 802.11n) is needed for maximum performance.

It's my under standing, that the spec requires the 11n to drop out of MIMO mode if 11g network/clients are present. So mix mode is doable. If the MFG elects to use the 5ghz band, it will not affect 11g users at all.

I'm waiting for the 802.11n routers that work in the 5 ghz frequency.

Whenever I transfer large files with my wifi, it completely screws up my bluetooth keyboard and mouse.
