Just brought my HP Mini 80GB today which runs xp , and the wifi (wireless G) cant connect to our TP Link router. My 15inch Xps 1530 connects automaticly when you enter the network key but not with my mini.

This is what it says :
The problem occurred becasue the network did not assign a network address to the computer.

    Details :
    Physical Address 00-24-2B-D1-80-4C
    IP Address 169.254.216.151
    Subnet mask 255.255.0.0
    default gateway - nothing
    DNS server - nothing
    WINS server - nothing

Cant seem to aquire the network address

    ANy help appreciated.

Hmm...I bet if you manually enter an IP Address it would work. I remember having an issue like this on Vista sometime back when I was troubleshooting the issue with my moms notebook, but I can't remember what the solution was. What OS are you using?

For now you might just want to give the mini a static IP Address. On the XPS find out the IP Info. it has by running the ipconfig /all command, in command prompt. Then from there you can generate an IP Address for the mini. For ex. if the XPS has 192.168.2.5 as its IP then give the mini something like 192.168.2.6 and every other IP should match/be the same.

I would try researching the issue to find a definitive solution.

Im I tried that but I didnt vary the ip. Will try that.
If not successfull then I will by a usb wireless stick amd disable the wireless connection. Should be garrenteed to work.

What OS are you running on the mini?

This is the issue I was talking about...just give it a good read and try the different steps mentioned IF you are using Vista that is.

I use static IPs on my network so this isn't an issue for me.

    Edit: Good tip below, Sephye!

Is the router DHCP enabled? I had that problem before with my router.

OK . Mini is using XP , not sure which service pack.
Tried all kinds of manual setting , nothing works. Funny , connection says connected to internet but there is no data transfer after manual setting entered. Restarted computer with manual settings but still no effect )On my vista xps , I get IPV4 address (168-253-168-101 or that effecr which is different from the dns address (168.101.1.1) or to that effect.
XP on mini doesnt have that just autoconfigured ip and subnnet mask but no dns. DHCP is enabled.Doesnt use intel pro wireless but Broadcome wireless card

It has service pack 3 on it , so that is out of the question. Maybe a USB wireless stick would work , I have used them on other laptops

Okay...give the USB Wireless stick a try and see how that goes. If that doesn't work i'll be glad to continue assisting you with getting the built-in Adapter to work.
