A friend of mine is having this problem for a while. I don't know the exact specs for everything but router she's using is WRT54GS (not sure about firmwire version), and using PPPoE because the DSL provider requires user name and password to connect. Everytime her laptop restarts, her entire network will drop out for a good 10-15 seconds. She had tried broadcasting on different frequencies and her phones in the house are well above 6.0 GHz so they shouldn't interfere. Wireless network mode is set to Mixed, tried using both 64 and 128 bit WEP encryption and that didn't seem to be the problem. Can anyone shine some light on this matter, I'll try to have her update the firmware and drivers on her wireless card on her notebook. Thanks in advance.

I'd say try updating the drivers and firmware if you haven't already.

i think that has the broadcom chip and it jut may not like whatever the laptop has. has she tried using wpa encryption, running just g and not b/g, etc

give us a lil more information when you can

but the drivers and firmware are def a good place to start

same thing happens to me. my dad's sony n series would drop the connection for about 10-20 seconds when he turns his laptop on (wifi enabled). he'll drop the download connection leaving the upload speeds intact. it has something to do with the linksys wrt54g router as my computer is connected by the wire and it still goes down. my router is version 8 and i haven't checked for firmware upgrade.

my sister's toshiba u series, my sony sz, and my new pc's wifi (airlink 300n pci) doesn't do this

Is this a mixed B/G network? I had my sister's Intel PRO/Wireless 2100 (b) restart the router everytime it would connect. Now using Generic PCMCIA Wireless Card on 'g' band with no problems.. though I guess it could have been the fault of the card and not the band.

It might be worth a try setting the router to G or B and not mixed.

It's the firmware in the router. The last GSv7 I worked on had problems with more than 1 user. You can load the dd-wrt mini linux firmware and correct the problem. The same applies to the wrt54g model if v5+. Has noting to do with the chip, though some may argue that point. It's all driver/firmware issues, and how the card is powered up.
