    hi

I just got a lovely shiny new Asus WL-700ge which I am using to connect my desktop and laptop computer together using Ethernet. I'm using Ethernet because it's faster than wifi and more secure (from my point of view). basically the problem is that in another room of the house we have our wireless access point (for internet), which both my computers could connect to happily, but now I have added the WL-700ge into the mix of electronics on my desk, neither or my computers will work on the Internet, even though wireless if full signal strength I just get a page cannot be displayed error. Both computers will only access the web when I unplug the Ethernet cable that is connecting them to the router. All connections are dynamic IP addresses. I don't know if it's a setting I've missed in the router or on both my computers  . If anyone has any ideas any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

check what the wireless IP is on your laptop, then input an IP address different to it as your ethernet address (not dynamic, static) and see if that helps

also check that there is a range of IP addresses available from the router

my cousins laptop had the same problem, they had two laptops but the router only had one available IP address (ISP guy came and set it up that way) so when one was connected, the other couldnt connect. All i did was expand the IP addresses so that more than one IP could be assigned

Double click the computer icon(on the taskbar),properties>connect using>configure>advance>scroll down to disable upon wired connect, make sure to enable this. The is is also a setting for WZC if your using that instead of wireless cards software to manage your wireless connection.Just something else to look at.

Thanks for the tip but I don't have a 'Disable upon wired connection' option to change.

This is what my ip's look like right now. Before both routers ha dan IP of 192.168.1.1, but I changed my ethernet one to 192.168.1.99 just in case that was the problem. It wasn't :( . I made the wireless IP manual too and left the ethernet one dynamic, but that didn't work either. Anyone got any other ideas?

    Try bridging the two together.

When they were bridged I was able to get online and both connections seemed to be working but I was unable to access the router. :(
