I have gone to the WLAN settings to set it up and my router is not listed. I am using Wifi through my cell phone. When choosing the option "router is not listed" I am basically told I wont be able to use it. Is this correct? Is there anything else that I can try?

Could you be more specific in description of your setup?
How's your cell phone connected to your notebook and while we're at that why aren't you connecting to a router/AP directly from your notebook?

Because my cell phone acts as a router itself, I just have to turn on the hotspot.
When using another laptop, it picks it up automatically.
But with my Vaio it doesn't. I read somewhere that you need to setup your WLAN settings, and when I go to do that,I have to choose my router and it isn't listed.

Is the SSID hidden or broadcasted? That setting should be on your router/phone.
If it's hidden- change it to broadcasted and see if it helps.
