I have a dell studio 17 and it has the wifi link advance 6200 card with a Linksys E3000. I also have 100mbit internet, and I'm trying to setup my wifi card to utilize the speed, but only getting 25mbit. It's frustrating and I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. I updated to the latest driver. Any suggestions?

You need to have security mode set to WPA2 and cypher to AES and make sure that WMM is enabled.
2.4GHz band may be (and probably will be) overcrowded so make sure to test 4GHz band as well.

    And you're still connected @54mbps?
Is the channel width set to 40MHz or Auto?

Also check device manager/ Intel 6100/ properties/ advanced tab and make sure channel width is set to 40MHz here too.

i'm connected at 120mbps it says.

Is my assumption of having faster speeds correct? I get around 25mbit on speedtest.net and of course with ethernet I get 100mbps. There aren't much interference like walls and such at my house.

If you're connected at any speed above 54mbps your connected at "n" speeds.
Now what matters is what's the channel width and how far from the router are you.

Can you test at what speed are you connected when you notebook is 6 feet from the router?

You can't be too close to the router- 6 feet no closer.
Are you still connected at 120mbps on 5GHz when being that close?

    Ok i'm about 6 feet away, I range from 180-216mbps on 5ghz.

Did speedtest and got around 20mbit. It's surely frustrating not being able to take advantage of my 100mbit line lol

That shouldn't happen. Assuming your drivers are up to date and your firmware is too + the fact that the settings are correct and you are connected at "n" speeds the only thing to to is:

-make sure that there are no "g" devices connected with you at the same time and/or that there are no networks on the same channel or overlapping channels (use inSSIDer to survey surroundings)

-fiddle with both channels and bans- check if you get the same sort of speeds on different channels on 2.4GHz range and on different 5GHz channels.
Both 2.4Ghz and 5GHz are open bands so other equipment like cordless phones, child monitors or walkie-talkies may use the same band.

thanks i used the software and it can only find my router in the 5ghz so there shoudln't be any overlapping or interference. i played with different channels and width, etc but doesn't seem to work. I'll play with it more.

Remember to check 2.4GHz band as well and make sure that your router's firmware is up to date.

Try without any security for a few minutes and do speed tests and see what speeds you get then.

be aware that N uses channel bonding. this is why it has to be on channel 6 and have limited other crap making noise on the surrounding channels to realize full speed. The last time I got near N speeds was when I lived out in the middle of nowhere and there where no other crap on the same band for miles.
