Have a 54G mini pci-e card in my laptop which has two antenna's connected to it, if I want to replace it with an Intel 5100 which has two antenna connectors and supports A/B/G/N where as existing card only support B/G, can I use same Antenna's?, as existing card was 2.4GHZ where as 5100 uses 2.4GHZ/5GHZ, are the stock Antenna's tuned to both 2.4GHZ/5GHZ?..

It's not as easy to answer as you think, I have done a lot of research on GSM/UMTS Bands, and know they require specific aerials tuned to the right frequency, not sure about the wifi ones though... I know Tyco makes Wifi antenna's I have three of them but all the same model number, not sure what Antenna's my Laptop uses, don't want to open the screen yet..

You should be fine. You will find that the current pci-e card wil have the numbers "1" and "2" printed on the board where the antennas connect. Just buy a 3rd insulated antenna and attatch it to the new cards "3" connection and hook your original 2 antennas to the corresponding "1" and "2" connections. The third insluated antenna can be snaked into the bottom of the laptop. I am looking for the link to the company that sells the 3rd insluated antenna you need. I have done this on many laptops and it works perfectly.

    Here it is:

Just realized you are using the 5100 not the 5300. Just hook up the antennas and it will work fine.

I hope so, but it's a HP and BIOS locked so first have to get around that part, also the 3rd antenna you talk about for the 5300, I remember buying a 4965AGN for my previous laptop which required a 3rd antenna, the guy I bought it off supplied me with the 3rd antenna but it was the exact same model number as the stock tyco 54G one ones, eg.. 1 and 2, very confusing my laptop had a 3rd antenna spare so just hooked that up, but this 3rd antenna is it a special one or bog standard tyco?

On a side note I got a WWAN/HSDPA Mini-PCI-E Card, try getting hold of an Antenna for that, first have to figure out what frequency your country uses, Europe uses 900/1800/2100MHZ where as US uses 850/1900MHZ, then find out who sells the Antenna's, after a week of researching I finally found one, Internal Pentaband 850/900/1800/1900/2100MHZ and external type to, Internal is similar to Wifi one with U.F.L connecter, now I simply have ot make a phone call and can get the Antenna's made to any length I require and delivered to me in 1-2 days, not bad huh?, I can order Wifi/GPS/BT Antenna's to.. now got to open up my laptop and test out them Antenna's..

The third antenna is used just as a "receive" antennea, the other ones are "transmit/receive". This is how they get more speed out of the three antenna setup.

Let me know if you get it in and working.

The i5300 is a 3T/3R WLAN card so all 3 antenna's receive and transmit at once.

Most other cards with 3 antenna's are 2T/3R
