I have been having issues with the wifi on my laptop. It is an HP DV6T 7000 laptop with a Core i7 Ivy Bridge, 8GB RAM, with a WiFi adapter model Intel(R) Centrino(R) Wireless-N 2230. I would get 4-5 bars signal with speeds of 39Mbps instead of 130Mbps wich is what the adapter is capable of. I did an online speed test to see what the speed is. My ISP provides me with 75Mbps up and 75 Mbps down but only get 4-6 Mbps up and down. This is a $1200 laptop and tried comparing my $400 HP g6 model and it would get internet speeds of 55-60Mbps up and down in the same room as my DV6T. I sent the laptop TWICE to HP to have it repaired and it comes back with the same issues and HP claims there is nothing wrong! Is there a know defect with this laptop model? Anyone else having this issue? A laptop this expensive should not be struggling with something basic such a WiFi!

There are so many variables here.
Did you test your computer with other routers? What router do you have and with what settings (channel width)?
Your card is actually capable of 300mbps connection speed not 130mbps although the latter might be true when paired with your router (I have no way of knowing at this point).
Also make sure that any form of power management for the Wi-Fi card is set to no power-saving or max performance (in advanced settings of a Windows power-profile you are currently using).
Does the speed of 39mbps is the one reported by Windows or is it actual throughput measured in some way? -

I would look at your router settings.
Is your router set to WPA2 AES?TKIP and TKIP+ AES may not yield N speeds
Is N enabled?
If there are a lot of other networks near your location a different channel as suggested already may help.
Install the FREE inSSIDer Home program to find a less used channel and set your router to that channel.
In the N-2230 Advanced settings uncheck the box "Turn Off To Save Power".
