    Hello,
I have the most annoying problem on Windows Vista 32bit. I have a small home network with a WiFi router and a fileserver connected to it. I access the router and shared files with my notebook just fine. However when I connect to the internet using a USB 3G modem, I loose the fileshare or the Internet if I connect in a reversed order..
So, the question is: How can I have internet access via the 3G modem and WiFi acces to my home fileserver at the same time?

p.s: I've been searching for a solution for days to this seemingly common problem. The closest I've found was something about the routing order in TCP/IP.

You might try changing your current wireless router to one of those 3G Mobile Wireless Router products, especially if you have unlimited 3G internet plan and your house doesn't have other broadband internet options such as DSL or cable.

Thanks, that certainly would be a solution. But I'd rather not ditch my netgear router. There must be a software/setup solution to this problem.

what you need to do is open up the TCP/IP properties for your wifi connection. I haven't used vista for a while but it should be the same...click on advanced and it will bring up another section and go to where it lists gateways and delete the one that is associated with the wifi

I'd imagine that would work...I think the problem is that you have 2 default gateways which won't work.

edit: I think you'll have to use a static address on the wifi.

Thanks, your post confirms the direction I've taken so far.

I've switched to Windows 7 and it displays the two gateways clearly. I also checked the setup of my router. Currently it's configured to obtain IP address from my ISP as well as gateway and DNS settings.
I'll try to switch to manual IP, just have to figure out how to fill those netmask, and gateway fields...
