    Hello all

I have been having problems when my 4965AGN WiFi card has to handle large transfers e.g. system image backup from Laptop to NAS. Basically the network card crashes i.e. it does not even show in the device manager anymore and I have to reboot in order for it to appear and work again. When surfing normally everything works OK.
I do not think it is the router, since my girlfriend has a MacBook Pro and has no issues with large transfers (I tested this).

I have followed the advice on the following site:
IntelĀ® WiFi Products — Reduced battery run time when using wireless on Windows Vista*

and also in the following thread:
Intel 4965AGN Wireless Networking Crashing on Lar... - Lenovo Community

Unfortunately no improvement so far. :(

    My systems specs:
    Sony FZ31Z
4965AGN driver version 13.4.0.139 with wireless-n mode enabled
    Router WRT610N

    Hope you can help!

    Thanks

Let's try from a different angle first- do you use a software firewall?

Couple things about the 4965 from experience with it.

If you have a poor connection, it will cut out like you mention. By poor, I don't mean "I have 3 bars!", on some systems, that's a bare minimum. For some reason the 4965 signal strength in windows does not go from 1-5bars, it actually goes 2-5 bars, with 2 being no connection at all. And a single bar is enough to connect, but not transmit. This is especially true on routers with a fluctuating signal, something the 610n isn't known for (my D-Link 655 would change dramatically).

The second thing, is that for some reason, Windows Driver update SUCKS for Intel drivers. It seems half the time I try getting a wireless driver through there, I end up with garbage. After the third time i stopped bothering.

Go to Intel.com and use the automatic driver finder and get your drivers from the source. MS drivers are usually a month or more out of date, and seem to be updated when they feel like it, so if you get a bad one, you are stuck with it for a while. Think of the MS drivers as a way to get your system online to get the better ones.
