    Hi,

I'm looking for a new wi-fi booster. I live in a small flat with 2 other people and the router has to be in one of the rooms (approx. 12m from my room behind 2 doors, because that's the only room where we can hook it. At the moment I'm using really old TP-Link TL-WA850RE that I got free with my pc 6 years ago. It does boost the signal, but there are instances, when I have full signal, but no connection to the internet for like 20minutes and in general the connection is really unstable (when I try to troubleshoot it, it usually tells me wrong IP (or million other random error messages), or just switches between the yellow triangle etc.

I'm a poor student, but I would like to find a strong repeater that pierces through walls like knife through butter, do you guys have some recomendations for a strong, but cheap repeater i could buy off from UK Amazon that would work much better than my olf TP-Link? I guess it doesnt matter if 2.4 or 5ghz, because my wifi card catches just 2.4.

If you have enough budget to get Netgear R6220 and above with dual band router, I think problem is solved since its very strong. You might get it pretty cheap since it was released in 2014 and I'm using the same after I had similar issues. No more IP errors and works 24/7 and rarely it needs a reboot. Although I switch off router at night, so give or take 12-14hrs of active time everyday.
Make sure you have user name and password of ISP for establishing PPoE connection.

Thank you for the recommendation, but it is kinda pricey for me and I would actually prefer a wall mounted repeater because best results I get are in the hallway and there is no space to lay it on. How about NETGEAR 11AC 1200 Mbps ? Would that be sufficient for a small flat, or is it just throwing money away?

Oh thank you for the response. I was looking at that wee lil bad boy and it looks very good. If I want to play online games and stream videos, which version I should use from the 300mbps, 750mbps or 1200mbps?

If your PC has 5GHz WiFi band, then 750Mbps(300N+450ac) or 1200Mbps(300N+866ac) should work. 2.4GHz or N mode provides 300Mbps with lot of interference if your neighbourhood has lot of wifi APs.
