I'm researching to buy a laptop. Taking the cost factor into account, is it more economical and practical to "cover the bases" or just get the options I need (or think I need)?
What wireless components are required in a laptop to do the following without wired connections?
    1) Transfer data to a Palm Treo smartphone that has Windows Mobile OS & Bluetooth
    2) Print documents on Laser printer
    3) Access cable TV/internet from a Motorola Hi-speed digital modem.
    4) Transmit MP3 music to A/V system for playing
    5) Transmit photos to a TV for viewing

How much do wireless options (ballpark figures) affect the purchase price on a laptop?

Integrated wireless is a common feature in virtually all notebooks now, and that should take care of virtually all your needs (2 to 5), assuming you have the required access points etc.

As for the PDA, you might need to get a notebook with bluetooth, although that tends to affect the price a fair bit, it'd be cheaper to buy a USB bluetooth dongle for that.

Tsar has basically answered your main questions.

You will need to purchase another standalone router device that specializes for transmitting photos to TV (wireless).

D-link make alot of these type of routers. And make sure you have A/V outputs for music or you can do that via wifi too.
