I've tried for two days now, over two seperate, strong connections, to get a smooth download going through both GrabIt and via my web browser; but each time, the connection seems to start off well enough, and then stop altogether, and then start again.

GrabIt, for example, hovers at a meagre 240kb, then drops to 0, then picks up again, then 0, and so on and so on and so forth. I can't seem to get anything done.

The laptop is a G1S, with a fresh install of Vista Ultimate and all necessary drivers (as far as I know)...

Does anybody know where I should look to remedy this problem?

Is this happen on all downloads, or just from several specific websites?

You have no control over the bandwidth that the other party has available, and you don't know how clogged it might be from other people also downloading from them.

So you most likely are downloading from someone that has a very shaky and busy pipeline. Thus it's not really stable, and your downloads will suffer.

Try downloading a big file from other reputable sources, like download.com or microsoft as they are usually very stable and fast. If downloading from them also causes problems, then it might be something with your hardware/drivers.
