I take my laptop somewhere then when I come back home and log on to my network I have to reenter my WEP key which is suppose to be saved.

Why is this happen? I got my WEP key save in a txt file on a USB stick but, still I like to know why my router thinks my laptop is different.

I would also recommend that you switch to WPA-PSK encryption, as WEP is an obsolete network security measure.

It's more likely that the key wasn't properly saved in the configuration profile set up for that particular network connection on your computer. However, as the others have pointed out, since you're going to have to monkey around with the network settings anyway, now is an opportune time to switch to WPA, as WEP is not bona-fide security any more.

You may have 2 locations with the same SSID. One is overriding the other. Like others said, change your security to WPA(2) AES Personal. Use all printable chr with a min length of 20 chr long.

    I am using firmware Tomato 1.22 speedmod+vegas

    I have these options:
    WEP
    WPA Personal
    WPA Enterprise
    WPA2 Personal
    WPA2 Enterprise
    WPA / WPA2 Personal
    WPA / WPA2 Enterprise
    Radius

which one do I use? Currently I am using WEP 128bit.

I am using Vista Ultimate by the way.

You should use WPA2 Personal with AES.

The reason I used WEP was due to the fact WPA was dropping like crazy. WEP turn out to be more stable. This was of course while I was still using Linksys firmware.

Since I upgraded to Tomato 1.22 WPA2-AES seems to be working good since I enable it.
