I have a Inspirion 6000 with the intel 2200 wireless. I was wondering which router is the best to buy? The guy at Best Buy told me the linksys speedbooster WRT54GS. He said with the speedbooster downloads are possible and with the cheaper linksys they are not. Anyways I'm affraid to purchase this router because of all the horror stories I hear about it not working with the intel 2200. What is the best router to get? Thanks for the help. Sorry if you answered this a 100 times already!

I, too would like to know which is a good router with the Intel Pro 2200 since I have a 9300 on order. So if anybody has any recommendations, I too, would like to know.

    Thanks!

speedbooster has nothing to do with downloading from the internet, it has to do with burst speeds while xfering files across a LAN. as well, you are limited by your cable/dsl/dialup speed; i.e., if your dsl speed is 384 max download, having 54 m/s pipe doesn't do you any good.

in terms of recommendation, i'd say don't spend more than 50-60 bucks on a router and go with any namebrand like linksys or netgear (even though my dad bought a no name trendnet and it works flawlessly)

I use the Belkin 54g. It's great! I got it off of eBay at a ridiculously low price too. :D

I've always been a netgear man, Go the WGT624 108 Router. Awsum and Looks to be better than the linksys as the stats show on the Netgear site.

    But thats my 2c worth.

Linksys has always had very highly rated routers.

I've never had a problem with my Netgear CG814WG (802.11G) I can game on it very well, never drops a connection. Although, when I connected using my Orinoco Silver B card, the signal was occasionally dropped (Due to the fact that I was using a B card).

You should be good with Netgear or Linksys! :D

If there's going to be alot of walls between you and your router, then I would recommend getting a MIMO router, which costs a bit more but expands coverage by 3 times or more. The reason is because I have a friend who gets low signal strength because of 5 walls that separate him and his router.

Ha ha ... ya gotta luv those BB guys. For internet work, either downloading or just browsing you do not need anything faster than the "b" versions of any networking devices. For an INTERNAL network, however, the faster the devices the better. And as someone else said, the speedbooster has absolutely nothing to do with the ability to download.

Yeah, go with Linksys or Netgear. Both are really good but they have their miner issues. Linksys is hard "er" to set up and i have heard Netgear disconnects automatically when you first get it but it stops doing it after a while. :)

I love to go to BestBuy if only to hear what comes out of their mouths. Would never buy anything there.

Well its true. They lure you in and start talking and you make the move (you buy the product) and it only encourages them even more to do it again. Its a little vicious circle ~ Im just kidding, i like bestbuy, i like going there just to look at new stuff.
