This is an ADSL modem-router so if you are using a fiber optic connection this is not the right device.
Are you looking at a modem and a router or just a router?

I thought a router was an advanced form of modem?

I am currently using a fibre optic compatible Huawei DSL3780 ADSL2+Router

but the signal strength is weak and inconsistent in speed

No, modems and routers are entirely different devices but that's not your biggest problem.
The device you were supplied by your ISP is very unusual - it supports both fibre and ADSL.

If you look at it from the back you have a fibre at the left (orange) and ADSL on the right (white) - 99% of modem-routers are not like this. Most are either one or the other.

Assuming you are actually using the left socket for fibre connection you have to start looking for a device that supports such a connection. Long story short - the one you linked to earlier won't work so don't buy it.

    thanks downloads,
i will now look for a decent fibre optic router, any brands/models you'd advise?

is there anything i can get to boost the range/distance of the wifi signal?

i tried using a repeater but it barely helped

To maximize the performance of a fibre connection I would be looking at AC1900 or AC2400 class routers like the Asus RT-AC68U or the Asus RT-AC87U or the Netgear R7000 or Linksys WRT1900AC routers.

No way you will get them at the prices you're hoping for, but then no way any router you buy for the budget you seem to have will maximize a fibre optic connection either.

The first link above will give you a relative rating of these routers I mention and the second link can give you direct help in learning and making a sound buying decision.

I greatly prefer the Asus routers over anything else on the market I've tried but you may be satisfied with the other brand's AC1900 or AC2400 class routers for your specific network setup.

    Good luck.
